OSRAM SYNIOS P2720 Series Infrared Emitting Diodes (IREDs) brings together the advantages of the high-power IR illumination LED technology in an extremely compact Synios P2720 package. These IREDs are available in the two well-known wavelengths 850nm and 940nm (centroid wavelength). The 850nm version is more common due to the much higher sensitivity of cameras at shorter wavelengths. The 940nm version helps to reduce the red glow at the cost of lower camera sensitivity. These IREDs provide compact sensing and are ideal for 2D facial recognition at daylight conditions if the camera chip has an 850nm blocking filter. The stray light of the sun does not interfere with 940nm LED illumination and the overall sensitivity increases in this case.
